Hi, I’m Joleen, and Carter’s Pet Services is my heart and soul. What started in 2007 as a simple love for caring for animals has grown into nearly 18 years of experience, dedication, and a lifelong passion for dogs and their incredible abilities.
Meet My Family
I share my life with four wonderful dogs: a loyal German Shepherd, two energetic Springer Spaniels, and a determined little rescue Sprocker who never fails to amaze me. Alongside them are my two cats, who bring their own unique charm to our household. I have also opened my home to countless foster puppies and rescue dogs over the years, helping them find confidence, purpose, and loving forever homes be those pet homes or operational working roles.
My Journey
Carter’s Pet Services has been part of my life for nearly two decades. From walking and training dogs to exploring the endless possibilities of canine potential, I’ve had the privilege of dedicating my days to something I truly love. Over the years, I’ve worked with hundreds of dogs, each one teaching me something new and deepening my commitment to helping dogs and their owners build better lives together.
My Expertise
I’ve always believed that to give dogs the best, I need to be at my best too. That’s why I’ve dedicated myself to continual learning and development, earning qualifications and certifications along the way:
• Safety First: Fully insured, police-checked, and trained in both canine and human first aid.
• Deep Understanding: OCN qualifications in Canine Behaviour, Health & Welfare, and Teaching Dogs, plus certifications in Canine Nutrition and Holistic Health.
• Nosework Passion: Accredited Instructor & Assessor with Mantrailing Global, Trailing & Tracking Level 2 Instructor with Scent Imprint for Dogs, and a Certified K9 ID Tracking Handler with K9 Ilma Global Training and a UK Sniffer Dog Silver Instructor.
I’ve also explored agility, obedience, Tellington TTouch, Schutzhund, and gundog work, but my true love lies in Mantrailing, Tracking, and Scent Detection. These sports allow dogs to thrive by using their incredible natural instincts, and nothing makes me prouder than watching them succeed.
Why I Do What I Do
I’ve been fascinated by operational detection and trailing for as long as I can remember. The idea of working alongside a dog to solve real-world challenges has always inspired me, and being part of Search and Rescue has only deepened that passion. Through search and rescue, I’ve witnessed firsthand the incredible capabilities of dogs—their determination, instinct, and unwavering drive to work alongside us in even the toughest conditions. It’s nothing short of extraordinary.
But I also know that not every dog is destined for operational work, and that’s okay. What truly matters is the connection, the journey, and the joy of training together. Whether your dog is preparing for sport or simply learning new skills for fun, they can still train with the same passion, focus, and dedication as any working dog.
For me, it’s about helping every dog and handler discover what they’re capable of. Watching a dog light up as they solve a problem or follow a trail is a reminder of why I do this—it’s about celebrating their natural abilities and strengthening the bond between us. Every training session is an opportunity to grow, learn, and share something special with our dogs, and I feel so lucky to be part of that journey.
