From Pet Owner to Passionate Trainer
In 2019, I started a journey that changed everything about how I train and live with dogs.
Spirit, my GSD with knee and hip issues, couldn’t join in high-impact activities — but she still needed a challenge.
Nero, my working-line German Shepherd, was bright, sensitive, and didn’t fit the mould of traditional classes. He needed a purpose that channelled his drive, not suppressed it like in traditional types of Tracking that we tried.
Mantrailing gave both of them what they needed — a job that used their brains, built their confidence, and strengthened our bond.
Since then, I’ve trained with Nero, Spirit, River & Reef, achieving Mantrailing Global Level 1 & 2 assessments.
I reguarly run Mantrailing sessions across the Midlands and continuing to share this amazing activity with other handlers and owners helping them build confidence and connection withe their dogs hrough real scentwork training.
Mantrailing with Carter's Pet Services
I have been teaching as a certified Mantrailing Global Instructor since 2020 (back when it was still called formerly Mantrailing UK).
I run Mantrailing introductions, progression sessions and assessments throughout the Midlands — covering Birmingham, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire.
Sessions are relaxed, practical and open to everyone — whether you’re a pet owner looking for a new adventure or a handler aiming to develop your skills. All you need is a dog with a nose and a sense of fun.
My approach is a mix of hands-on experience and constant learning. I’ve trained Lisa Gorenflo, (founder of Mantrailing Global), and several of the head instructor team who shaped the sport.
I’ve also expanded my learning through workshops with the British Mantrailing Academy, GAK9, and IMBTI (International Bloodhound Training Institute), working alongside Wesley Visscher of Scent Imprint for Dogs and Ilkka Hormila from K9 Ilma Global.
Whether you’re starting out or levelling up, I’ll guide you through clear, confidence-building steps to help you and your dog work as a true team.
