Hi, I’m Joleen
Carter’s Pet Services is basically my life.
I started it back in 2007, when it was just me walking dogs and trying to figure out how to give them more than the basics.
Eighteen years later, that’s still what drives me — helping dogs feel understood and helping their humans see what they’re truly capable of.
At home I’ve got quite the crew: an excitable Malinois x German Shepherd and two chaos-loving Springer Spaniels. The cats keep everyone in line.
Over the years I’ve fostered more dogs than I can count — helping them find confidence, purpose and the right kind of home, whether that’s a family sofa or a working role.
How I Work
My training is dog-led, reward-based and centered around listening to the dog in front of me.
I’ve spent enough time around dogs to know that control doesn’t create connection.
I’d rather teach people how to listen to their dogs and work with them, not against them.
Every session — whether it’s tracking/trailing, mantrailing or scent detection — is about teamwork and trust.
Experience and Qualifications (the serious bit)
• Fully insured, DBS checked, trained in canine and human first aid
• OCN qualifications in Canine Behaviour, Health & Welfare, and Teaching Dogs
• Certified in Canine Nutrition and Holistic Health inc Reiki
• Mantrailing Global Instructor & Assessor
• Trailing & Tracking Level 2 Instructor with Scent Imprint for Dogs
• Certified Human ID Hard Surface Tracking Handler with K9 Ilma Global Training
• UK Sniffer Dog Silver Instructor
I’ve dabbled in agility, obedience, TTouch and gundog work too, but scentwork is where everything clicks for me. There’s nothing better than watching a dog light up when they use their nose.
Why I Do What I Do
Dogs never stop amazing me. Watching them think, problem-solve and light up when they realise, “I’ve got it!” — that’s the best part of my job.
Not every dog needs to be a working dog to feel that joy. What matters is the teamwork, the trust, and the fun of learning together.
My aim is to help every handler see their dog for who they really are — capable, clever and full of potential — and to build a bond that feels effortless and real.
